Ice Cream

I got a call from a friend, Andrew, in the States yesterday evening. He and I got to talking quite a bit and one of the things that we got to talking about was about food. He is one of our supporters every month and he mentioned that he wouldn't mind if we got ice cream every month using the money he gives us. I was smiling! I don't think that we'll be buying it very often, but I am looking forward to our next bucket of ice cream. We haven't bought a bucket of ice cream for probably close to 6 months.

Andrew, when I get my Haitian driver's license (which should be any day now), I am going to go buy myself some ice cream and I'll post a picture of our faces deep in the container of ice cream! Thank you for your encouraging phone call (and I am not just talking about ice cream)!

Haha...you're welcome. It was good talking with you. The only thing better would be to enjoy the ice cream with you. Enjoy!

Ken -

If all goes well you should be able to get more ice cream. I tried to send a small amount of cash with the group from Church of the Open Door.

Everyone's bags were FULL this time, so I was not able to slip anything in.

I'm not sure if it will work out but I just grabbed an envelope at church today and gave it to Steve Hanson, our global minister.

If they make it up to Baptist Haiti Mission, they will just drop it off at the shop. If not, it will stay at Mephibosheth(the home for special needs children in Port-Au-Prince) If you have a chance, please visit as I really think you would enjoy this HOLY, HAPPY group home. I'm going to try to see if I can find your phone number and send it to Steve Hanson. They leave early on Monday (June 7th).

I've followed your story every day. Peace and blessings to the whole family. I hope I can come back to Haiti sometime soon.

Hi Debbie! Thank you for trying to send some things and thank you for sending an amount of cash - everything helps!

I hope that one way or another we meet the folks from your group. It would be nice to visit the location in Port and see what it's all about.

Thank you for your blessings and I pray for God's blessings in return!

Ken-

I havn't been able to locate your phone number. I know I just saw it in the last couple of weeks (sorry but it is on some miscellaneous piece of paper).

If you have a chance, will you please send it to me. Steve Hanson usually goes to an internet cafe daily to keep up with all of his Global Ministry work. I can e-mail him your phone number in case they make it up to Baptist Haiti Mission.

HEy Ken-

We have donors that say use the money for diet coke- use it for ice cream --- I don't think that many supporters are nearly as judgmental as we might be worrying they are. In three and a half years in haiti I have learned that if little things like expensive ice cream or diet coke can make you feel a little closer to your own culture or past happy memories --- those things will fuel you to keep going when Haiti gets very hard ... and as you know, sometimes Haiti really hurts.
tara and troy (and we used to attend Church of the Open Door - my uncle is a good friend of Dave Johnson and we are podrishoners now.)
